Sarah-Jane (SJ) Burton is a writer, critic, and academic currently based at the Australian National University.

She is a literary historian, specialising in archival research and American poetry. 

​

SJ has worked in publishing, editorial and media roles for Pacific Magazines, Australian Consolidated Press, Fairfax Media and NSW Health. Her academic appointments have included posts at The University of Wollongong, Macquarie University, Western Sydney University, The University of New South Wales, The Australian National University, Indiana University and Harvard University. She is currently a trustee of the the University of Wollongong's UOW USA Foundation.
